Pot size:  11 or 13.5cm diameter.

Care tips:  Oxalis traingularis are often called the butterfly plant because of their ability to open and close their leaves in response to light.  Delicate and unusual they make a beautiful houseplant.  You can also grow them outside in your garden where they will behave as a perennial plant, dying back in the winter and regrowing again in the spring.  If grown inside they usually do not go dormant but if the leaves do die back don’t throw your plant away!  Put it to one side, let the compost completely dry out and wait until you see a new leaf emerging.   At this point resume watering.

Water when the compost is dry, keep in a bright spot and feed with a liquid fertiliser during the summer months.  They have tiny pink flowers which, when a stem has finished flowering, if you gently remove them you will encourage more flowers to grow.

We grow these plants from rhizomes every year in peat free compost and in biodegradable pots that will last for approximately 5 years before biodegrading.

Pet friendly: No, these plants are toxic to pets.  However!  Humans can eat them and pop the leaves into salads for a tasty munch, just don’t consume them in large quantities as they contain oxalic acid which can be toxic in large amounts.
