Care tips: This plant is often referred to as the Staghorn fern and is an epiphytic plant meaning that it lives on another plant, for example, a tree. It just uses the tree for support and doesn’t harm it. It is one of the only ferns that can cope with the lower humidity in our homes. Sometimes these ferns are mounted on wooden boards or trunks to mimic how they are found in their natural habitat in the forests of New Guinea and Australia. Water when the compost becomes dry and feed your fern during the growing season with a liquid plant fertiliser, we sell Liquid Gold Leaf. Keep in a bright spot out of direct sunlight.
NB: these plants produce a ‘shield’ that naturally browns with age and should not be removed. It is used to protect its roots and can make watering from the top of the plant tricky so you can water from below and let the plant soak up what it needs but do not let the plant constantly sit in water.
Pet safe: Yes! These plants are safe for animals and not toxic.
Please note the decorative pot is not included in the price.
